Aloha everyone,
Well, we’ve been hard at work on the canoe for the last few weeks. Sanding it down, patching the fiberglass, adding resin, bondo, sanding some more and adding primer to the hull of the canoe! We’ve been getting filthy dirty working on it, but it is coming along nicely. Unfortunately, now we’re at a point where we’ve got to start getting serious about fundraising. We have a Corporate Sponsorship system that we set up for businesses who want to help support the project and hopefully we’ll get some feedback from that. At this point every little bit helps. The paint alone for the project is estimated to cost about $500- $800, so I’m not sure how much more we’ll be able to fund on our own.
Certainly a big mahalo is in order for everyone who has donated to the project already! Certainly Kihei Canoe Club for donating the boat, and to all the individuals who have made donations online or with their time and hard work down at the canoe. Our next step is to secure the paint and a place to paint the canoe. Then we’ll need to start looking into escort boats for the journey. So if anyone out there has any leads for us, they would be greatly appreciated.
Here’s some more photos of the canoe and how its coming along… stay tuned, more to come!
Mahalo!
Here I am sanding the hull of the canoe.
Sure takes a lot of elbow grease to get this thing knocked down.
